Giving preschoolers a first look at who God is . . .

Policies & Procedures

The following policies are designed to help us provide a safe learning environment for your child.

Health Policies

For the protection of your child and other children, parents are requested not to bring a child who appears to be ill.  Upon the recommendation of the Committee on Control of Infectious Diseases of the American Adademy of Pediatrics, a child should not be taken from home when any of the following exists:

  • Fever, currently or whithin previous 24 hours
  • Vomiting or diarrhea
  • Any symptom of a childhood disease such as scarlet fever, German measles, mumps, chicken pox, or whooping cough
  • Commom cold, from onset through one week
  • Sore throat
  • Croup
  • Any unexplained rash
  • Any skin infection-boils, ringworm, impetigo
  • Pink eye or other eye infection

If a child develops a fever or other symptom of illness during church activites, he/she will be isolated and the parents contacted to take the child home.

All medication must be administered by a parent.  We do not keep medicine on hand for your use.

Should your child develop an infectious disease (measles, mumps, chicken pox, lice, etc.) following a session in the preschool area, please contact the Children's Ministry Office immediately.

Parents should report any allergies at the check in desk and also to the teacher.

For sanitation reasons, we request you use disposable diapers at church.  To prevent the spread of germs, cloth diapers and soiled clothing are not rinsed out, but returned to you in a plastic bag.

We recommend waiting at least six weeks (or until they have received their first set of immunizations) before bringing newborns to the Preschool Department.  Babies adapt to church if brought regularly before seven months of age.

Cleanliness/Sanitation

The teacher or church worker must wear a new pair of disposable gloves and use wax paper underneath the child each time a diaper is changed.  They must also wash their hands thoroughly afterwards.  Soiled diapers are first placed in plastic bags and then placed in a covered container.

  • A teething toy will be gathered when a child seems finished with it and before another child decides to play with it.  All soiled toys are washed and sanitized with disinfectant.
  • One bed is used for each baby during his/her stay in the nursery.  Beds are sprayed with disinfectant and clean sheets are placed on beds after each session.

Clothing Hints

Parents are required to label all items belonging to their child (i.e. diaper bags, bottles, pacifiers, Bibles, coats, etc.)

Preschoolers birth through three (or until completely toilet trained) need to bring extra changes of clothing in a labeled ziplock bag in their diaper bag to every service.  We will not store their clothes in the classroom for them.

Preschoolers undergoing toilet training should wear clothes that are easy to take off and put on themselves.

Preschoolers are usually involved in art activities each session.  Steps are taken to protect clothing; however, occasionally soiling with tempera paint will occur.  Children's clothing should be washable and parents should expect occasional soiling.

Food Policies

Toddlers and older preschoolers are served a snack of water and crackers or cheerios during most preschool sessions.

Special snacks are sometimes provided in your child's class.  A sign will be posted on the door.

No food may be taken into a room during a preschool session unless all of the children have been asked to bring a snack or their own lunches at that time.

Due to allergies, we ask that parents do not bring in a special snack for the celebration of any event unless it has been pre-authorized by the Children's Pastor.

If provided in plastic bottles or sippy cups, infants and toddlers will be fed formula, milk, juice, or water.  The formula must be pre-mixed by the parent, and all bottles and sippy cups must be permanently labeled. (I'm sorry, we are unable to feed cereal or baby food to any child)

A Nursing Area will be available for nursing mothers.
